Aqilo is operated by Smaks Enterprise (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2024/634827/07. These terms apply to this website and to the Aqilo service at app.aqilo.tech.

By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Aqilo is a homework-help service for South African families. A learner submits a question — typed, or as a photo of the page — and receives an explanation pitched at their grade and curriculum. The adult on the account receives a plain-English summary they can use to help, and a weekly email of what was practised.

It is built for learners following CAPS, IEB and Cambridge. It is a study aid. It is not a school, a tutor service, an examination body, or a substitute for a teacher, and it does not promise any particular academic result.

The account holder must be an adult — a parent, guardian or other adult responsible for the learners on the account. Children do not hold their own Aqilo accounts.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity that happens on your account. Please tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access to it.

You must give accurate information when you sign up, and keep it up to date.

When you add a learner to your account, you confirm that you are their parent or guardian, or are otherwise permitted to act for them, and that you consent to Aqilo processing their information as set out in the Privacy Policy.

You remain responsible for supervising how your child uses the service, and for deciding what is appropriate for them.

Aqilo’s explanations are produced by an artificial-intelligence model. This matters, so we will be plain about it:

• Explanations can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Important work should always be checked.
• An explanation is not professional, medical, legal or financial advice.
• The service is designed to teach the method and hand the next step back to the learner rather than simply supply answers, but it cannot guarantee how any individual uses it.
• We cannot promise that the service will improve any particular mark or outcome.

If something looks wrong, trust the teacher and the textbook over the explanation.

When using Aqilo, please do not:

• Use it to break the law, or to harm or harass anyone.
• Submit content that is unlawful, abusive or that infringes someone else's rights.
• Attempt to breach the security of the service, or access another family's information.
• Scrape, copy or resell the service or its output.
• Misrepresent generated work as your own where the rules of a school or examination body prohibit it.

That last point is worth a sentence of its own: schools set their own rules about acceptable help, and following them is the family’s responsibility.

You can permanently delete your account from your account settings. Doing so deletes your household, every learner on it and their associated records. It is immediate and cannot be undone.

Deleting your account is separate from cancelling a subscription. If you want to stop being billed but keep your family’s history, cancel rather than delete.

Aqilo, its software, design and branding belong to us and may not be copied or reused without permission.

Content you enter — your account details, your learners and the work you submit — remains yours. You grant us permission to process it for the purpose of providing the service, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Explanations generated for you may be used freely for your family’s own learning.

We aim to keep Aqilo running and improving, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The service may be unavailable during maintenance, or because of faults, or because a third-party provider we depend on is unavailable.

We may add, change or remove features. Where a change materially reduces what you are paying for, we will tell you.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that is being used unlawfully, or where necessary to protect other users or the service.

Where it is reasonable to do so, we will give notice first and an opportunity to put things right.

Aqilo is a study aid provided on a reasonable-efforts basis. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for academic results, or for decisions taken on the basis of a generated explanation.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act where those apply.

If we are nonetheless found liable, our total liability for all claims arising in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or R1 000.

These terms are governed by South African law, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.
